All three travel teams for Arch Rival Roller Derby hit the road this weekend and the trio aims to collectively claim a clean sweep.
The ARCH All-Stars, currently ranked fourth internationally by the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association (WFTDA), competes at the Tinseltown Showdown in Los Angeles, California. The A-team (3-2) has battles against #7 Angel City and #21 Arizona during the weekend.
Meanwhile, the ARCH Nemesis and the Fleur De Linquents four-wheeled caravans drive to Tennessee Saturday and face the travel teams of Nashville Roller Derby. The Nemesis B-team (2-4) meets Nashville’s A-team, the Music City All-Stars (6-3) in the main event at the historical Nashville Fairgrounds.
In the opener, ARCH’s FDL C-team (2-2) tangles with NRD’s Music City Brawl Stars (2-4).
In the end, the St. Louis roller derby franchise hopes to finish the weekend 4-0 across all platforms.
For the ARCH All-Stars, the trip to the Golden State serves as a solid primer prior to their appearance at November’s WFTDA International Championships in Montreal. With their current Top Four placement, the St. Louis rollers earned automatic entry to the governing body’s post-season finale. This marked a new benchmark for the League.
Saturday’s meeting with Arizona (5-5) marks the first time the two squads have met since April 2015’s Skate to Thrill invitational in St. Charles County, Missouri.
Arizona Roller Derby All-Stars claimed a 3-1 finish at June’s Monsoon Madness Invitational held in Phoenix and looks to use the momentum to help their cause prior to post-season play. They are the eighth seed at the WFTDA playoff round held in Seattle, Washington in mid-September.
ARCH’s Sunday meeting with the event’s hostesses, Angel City Roller Derby, is the marquee match-up of the weekend. The Hollywood Scarlets (3-2) raced out to three straight wins to launch the season but fell to #1 Rose City and #5 Denver in mid-June.
Angel City is the second-seeded team for the WFTDA playoff round held in Winston-Salem, North Carolina early next month. The end result of the Arch Rival/Angel City meeting might provide a glimpse of each squad’s potential post-season play.
Meanwhile, Saturday’s ARCH travel team games in Nashville present re-matches between franchises. In mid-May, ARCH Nemesis topped the Nashville Music City All Stars, currently ranked #105 by the WFTDA, at their home track with an overwhelming 316-93 win.
At the same Queeny Park event, the Fleur De Linquents bested the Music City Brawl Stars 238-105.
We’ll have updates for all the games at the ARCH social media platforms throughout the weekend!
