In news off the flat-track, the Arch Rival Roller Girls were busy this past weekend and February is projected to be even busier.
This past Saturday, ARRG hosted its eighth-annual Trivia Night at the German Cultural Society in St. Louis. Over 35 tables competed at the event, where highlights included winners at side-games and raffles contributing their collected monies back to the league, silent auction items going for top-dollar value and the evening’s winning table taking the top spot by a solo point.
Monies raised at the event go to the operational costs associated with the league.
A HUGE THANK YOU to Saturday’s teams, volunteers and donators. It is much appreciated and one can bank that the ninth installment with return in January 2017.
St. Louis Arc is a nonprofit, United Way agency that provides support and services to more than 3,500 adults and children with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and their families, throughout the St. Louis metropolitan area.
ARRG members Bricktator, EnYa Nightmare, Bad Mutha T, Lou Steel Ballz, QuickSandz and Winston Churchkill plucked bingo balls and called numbers for those participating at the facility during the evening. We thank them for volunteering their time and giving back to the community.
The first two weekends of the month will also see ARRG once again participate in two annual community events.
This Saturday (2/6), ARRG, alongside GateKeepers Roller Derby, will participate in the Bud Light Grand Parade held during Mardi Gras weekend in the Soulard section of St. Louis. The parade steps off at 11 am at Busch Stadium, works its way South on Broadway and finishes at the Anheuser-Busch Brewery.
The parade is the Midwest’s largest and most spectacular pre-Lenten celebration. Krewes from over 100 floats will toss over 10 million strands of beads and other sought-after goodies to celebratory masses gathered along the route.
To promote the parade, ARRG is scheduled to appear on “Fox 2 News at 9 AM” this Friday live from St. Louis City Hall.
With temperatures Saturday projected to be in the lower 50s, the weather will certainly be ripe to “laissez les bons temps rouler!”
We’ll see you at the Mardi Gras Parade. We’re entry #59!
Finally, ARRG is volunteering at the 16th annual Hardee’s Rise and Shine for Heat-Up St. Louis on Friday, February 12. Skaters will be at two St. Louis Hardee’s locations (4202 South Broadway & 2110 Hampton Ave.) during breakfast hours (6 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.).
Hardee’s offers a Sausage and Egg Biscuit Sandwich for the special price of $1.00 and 100% of all sales proceeds go to Heat-Up St. Louis, Inc.
Launched in December 2000, Heat-Up St. Louis, Inc., is a non-profit charity that focuses on helping area elderly and disabled people, and low-income families, with their delinquent heating bills in Missouri and Illinois in the St. Louis region. With 100% of all public and private donations going directly to helping the needy, last year’s Rise and Shine raised $280,000 in just a few hours.
Come on by, buy and sandwich and say hello to ARRG!
And those are just the activities off the track! There’s still derby to played this month, gang! ARRG is back in action on Saturday, February 20 at Midwest Sport Hockey as the regular season continues with a battle featuring the M-80s (1-1) facing the Smashinistas (1-2).
